Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were little changed Friday, holding at the lower end of recent trading ranges as the technical market picture darkened and enthusiasm seemed to wane among traders following last week's "halving" event.

The price of Bitcoin has risen less than 1% over the past 24 hours to below $64,500, having recently traded below $64,000. The largest digital asset is on the bottom end of its recent range, having sat at $67,000 earlier in the week, and remains firmly below all-time high near $74,000 in mid-March. Bitcoin also is trading below its 50-day moving average of $67,360 -- a sign of weakness that has been accompanied by other technical market signs indicating that more declines could be coming.

"Bitcoin under pressure," said Alex Kuptsikevich, an analyst at broker FxPro. "The currency continues to correct, remaining at the bottom of the range set in March. The Relative Strength Index is signalling a possible further decline in price."

Analysts and market participants continue to be optimistic about the longer-term outlook for Bitcoin, especially in the wake of last week's halving.

A once-in-four-years change to Bitcoin's programmatic monetary policy, the halving cut the issuance of new tokens in half, restricting supply in a move that will boost prices as long as demand for Bitcoin stays at least relatively constant. The halving was a much-hyped event that saw prices run higher, though it could take months for the full effects of the new supply and demand dynamics to play out.

"Following the halving, Bitcoin appears to be in somewhat of a consolidation phase ... I think people got a little too excited about a big runup immediately following the halving event," said Sunand Raghupathi, CEO of blockchain finance group Seven Seas Capital.

"But if you look at past cycles ... the digital asset market tends to consolidate for some months before there's a major rally. I expect something like this to play out, with the market experiencing range-bound activity until, possibly, late summer or so," Raghupathi added.

Beyond Bitcoin, Ether -- the second-largest crypto by market cap -- was less than 1% higher at $3,150. Smaller tokens were weaker, with Solana sliding 2% and Ripple retreating 1%. Memecoins were in the green, with Dogecoin up 1% and Shiba Inu advancing 3%.
